The Diplock Courts
In Northern Ireland Diplock Courts are administered by a single judge without a jury.
Unlike in British courts, a "confession" made by the accused may be used by the prosecution
even if it was obtained by physical violence or intimidation. Further, the verbal evidence of a
policeman that the accused has made a "confession" is enough to secure a conviction.
Amnesty International have stated that in the overwhelming number of contested cases,
convictions are based wholly or mainly on admissions of guilt made to the police during
interrogation. Only in a minority of cases is other evidence - forensic evidence, intelligence
evidence or testimony of witnesses - produced in court to secure a conviction.

Always hold records and discs by the edges or center hole, avoiding contact with grooves or shiny surfaces. Handle cassette tapes by the casing only, keeping fingers away from the tape itself. Store all media vertically in their protective sleeves or cases, away from direct sunlight, dust, and extreme temperatures. Keep them in a cool, dry place to prevent warping, scratching, or degradation over time.
