Queen

Formed in 1970 when guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and charismatic singer Freddie Mercury (with bassist John Deacon joining soon after) decided rock needed a bit more opera and theatricality. Their breakthrough came with “Killer Queen” from 1974’s Sheer Heart Attack, but 1975’s A Night at the Opera turned heads with the six‑minute, multi‑part masterpiece “Bohemian Rhapsody.” They followed with arena‑sized anthems like “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions,” “Somebody to Love,” and later “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Under Pressure.” Albums such as News of the World, The Game and Innuendo showcased their eclectic style. After Mercury’s death in 1991 and Deacon’s retirement, May and Taylor kept the show on the road with guest vocalists, most recently Adam Lambert. In 2025 the band received Sweden’s prestigious Polar Music Prize. All together now: Galileoooo!
