The Kinks

Albums like The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society and Arthur turned everyday English life into poetry, mixing satire, nostalgia, and cups of tea. Ray Davies’ witty lyrics captured everything from suburban ennui to working-class pride, backed by raw standout riffs from Dave.

The Kinks scored so many iconic tunes — “Sunny Afternoon,” “Waterloo Sunset,” “Lola” — each as distinctively English as a pint and a rain shower.
