Passion and Pride : Scotlands Pop Tapestry
(556 products)From the '60s onwards, artists like Lulu, Gerry Rafferty, John Martyn and Donovan brought Scottish pop and songwriting to global recognition, Rod Stewart — with his unmistakable voice and Scottish soul — became one of rock’s greatest showmen. The Bay City Rollers defined 1970s teen mania and Alex Harvey added raw, theatrical bite.
The 1980s marked a creative zenith: Simple Minds soared to stadium heights, Annie Lennox embodied pop sophistication, and The Blue Nile delivered their timeless, cinematic soundscapes on A Walk Across the Rooftops. At the same time, Orange Juice, Aztec Camera, The Skids and The Jesus and Mary Chain shaped the indie revolution, and Big Country fused rock with Highland spirit.
Runrig blended anthemic tradition and modern rock. On the Dancefloor meanwhile Calvin Harris and LF System kept the upbeats and Boards of Canada made the downtempo beautiful.
In the years since, Primal Scream, Travis, Belle & Sebastian, Paolo Nutini and Franz Ferdinand have carried the torch, while Lewis Capaldi and Young Fathers ensure Scotland’s music remains as ever, soulful, inventive, and distinctive.
