Deep Purple emerged from Hertford in 1968 and swiftly became one of the most influential rock bands in history. Recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's loudest band in 1972, their sonic assault redefined what rock music could be.

The Classic Lineup
The legendary Mark II lineup—Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass), and Ian Paice (drums)—created some of rock's most enduring anthems. Later lineups featuring David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Steve Morse, and Don Airey continued the band's evolution across five decades.
Spinoffs and Solo Projects

Deep Purple's influence extended far beyond the main band. Ritchie Blackmore formed the mighty Rainbow, delivering hard rock classics with Ronnie James Dio and later Graham Bonnet. David Coverdale went on to front Whitesnake, whilst Ian Gillan launched a successful solo career. Glenn Hughes became known as "The Voice of Rock" through his solo work and collaborations, and Jon Lord pursued classical compositions alongside rock projects.

 Deep Purple have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Their pioneering fusion of classical influences with hard rock intensity laid the groundwork for heavy metal, progressive rock, and countless subgenres.
